Grapevine allows residential garage sales without a permit, limited to 3 sales per address per year and 3 consecutive days per sale. Signs may be placed on the property during the sale and must be removed immediately after. Signs in the public right-of-way or on utility poles are prohibited.
Grapevine's Code of Ordinances and sign regulations permit residents to hold occasional garage, yard, moving, or estate sales without a city permit. Typical limits are up to 3 sales per residential address per calendar year, each sale lasting up to 3 consecutive days (Friday through Sunday is a common pattern). Sales hours should not begin before approximately 7 a.m. or end after sunset, to avoid neighborhood disturbance. Items sold must be personal property of the residents; commercial inventory or items purchased elsewhere for resale converts the activity into a home business requiring different permitting. Signage rules are important: one garage sale sign is allowed on the property during the sale, but signs in the public right-of-way (between sidewalk and street, on medians, on utility poles, or stuck in neighbors' yards without consent) are prohibited and subject to removal by city crews. All signs must be removed within 24 hours after the sale ends. Parking must not obstruct sidewalks, fire hydrants, driveways, or intersections. HOA rules frequently add further restrictions such as limiting garage sale frequency or requiring HOA-sponsored community-wide sale days. Contact Code Enforcement at (817) 410-3330 for questions.
