Section 6-15(1500) defines an unsafe condition broadly: structures or equipment that are or become unsafe, insanitary or deficient because of inadequate means of egress, inadequate light and ventilation, a fire hazard, danger to human life or the public welfare, or illegal or improper occupancy or inadequate maintenance. The Building Official can order an unsafe structure taken down and removed or made safe, and the code adds a standalone trigger: a vacant structure that is not secured against entry shall be deemed unsafe regardless of its physical condition.

Section 1501 requires the Building Official to file a written report on any unsafe condition stating the occupancy and the nature of the problem, and sections 1502 and 1503 route notice and service through the condemnation procedure set out in the parish's adopted International Property Maintenance Code, chapter 6, article III, section 6-41. If an owner restores a condemned structure to a safe condition, section 1504 requires any repairs, alterations, additions or occupancy change made during that restoration to comply with both article I of chapter 6 and the International Existing Building Code. 4 rule against weeds and plant growth over 24 inches on exterior property, through the Bureau of Administrative Adjudication established at section 2-151.
