Sioux City, IA Property Maintenance: Snow & Sidewalk Clearing (2026)

Sioux City Municipal Code § 17.24.010 bars any person owning or controlling real property from letting snow or ice remain on abutting public sidewalks more than twelve hours after it stops falling or blowing. Under § 17.24.020, a violation is a municipal infraction: $50 for a first offense, $100 for a second, and $200 for a third, with each 24-hour period of noncompliance a separate offense. No citation issues until the owner has received two prior written notices. If the owner still doesn't clear it, the city can remove the snow itself and bill the abutting owner, plus a 25% assessment fee, under § 17.24.050.
