Fair Lawn requires residents to store trash and recycling containers out of front-yard view and to place them at the curb only within designated collection windows.
Under Chapter 415, Solid Waste, residents must use closed, watertight containers and store them behind the front building line except on collection days. Containers may be placed curbside no earlier than the evening before pickup and must be removed by the end of the collection day. Recycling is mandatory under Chapter 388, with separation of paper, commingled bottles and cans, and yard waste in season. Bulk items require scheduling through the Department of Public Works.
Improper container storage or missed setouts may result in warning notices and fines starting at $50 per occurrence.
