Ridgewood requires a permit to use refuse containers, sets curbside placement windows, and mandates covered watertight bins under Chapters 133 and 223 of the Village Code.
The Village of Ridgewood regulates trash containers under Chapter 133 (Refuse Containers) and Chapter 223, Article XXII. No person may place or use a refuse container or dumpster in the Village without first obtaining a permit. Acceptable containers include watertight metal or plastic cans with tight-fitting covers, plastic disposal bags of at least three mils thickness suitably tied, or 100-pound kraft paper bags. Containers must not be placed at the curb before 5:00 p.m. on the night before scheduled collection or after 6:00 a.m. on collection day, and all containers must be removed from the curbside by 11:59 p.m. on the day of collection. Owners must keep dumpsters and containers covered to prevent leakage, spillage, and overflow.
Setting out trash early, leaving containers at the curb after collection, using uncovered or leaking dumpsters, or using a dumpster without a permit are enforceable violations.
