Under Montebello Municipal Code 8.12.270, solid waste and recycling receptacles must be kept on private premises out of sight from the street except when set out for collection. Residential customers are served by Athens Services, which also asks that carts be stored out of public view.
MMC 8.12.270 requires solid waste and recycling receptacles be kept at all times on private premises, out of sight from the street, except when placed at designated collection locations. Curb-served premises place containers within the parkway or within five feet of the curb or edge of pavement; alley-served premises within five feet of the alley right-of-way line. Bin-type receptacles may not be placed adjacent to a street or alley right-of-way and must sit on private property. MMC 8.12.260 caps residential containers at 20 pounds empty and 75 pounds loaded. Athens Services, the residential hauler, directs that containers be stored out of public view until 24 hours before collection.
Storing cans in public view or leaving them out beyond collection can draw a code enforcement notice; every violation of the code is subject to a civil penalty up to $1,000 per violation per day under MMC 8.16.110.
