Vacant lots must be maintained free of debris, litter, and overgrown vegetation. Grass and weeds on unimproved lots must not exceed 18 inches per City Code. Owners receive notices to abate nuisances with 10 days to comply.
Chapter 100 and Chapter 98 of the City Code govern vacant lot maintenance. Owners must keep lots free of trash, abandoned items, unlicensed vehicles, and rodent harborage. Overgrown vegetation over 18 inches is considered a nuisance and must be cut. Ponding water that breeds mosquitoes is addressed under Palm Beach County Mosquito Control rules. If the owner fails to abate after notice, the city may enter, perform cleanup, and bill the owner plus administrative costs, or place a lien. Registered vacant or abandoned structures may also fall under Chapter 116 Abandoned Property Registration.
City abatement costs plus administrative fees become liens if unpaid. Daily Code Enforcement fines up to 250 dollars accumulate until cure.
