Washoe County treats neglected vacant and foreclosed parcels as public nuisances: excessive foliage, standing water breeding mosquitoes, trespassers, and half-built or fire-damaged structures left over six months all violate WCC 50.308.
WCC 50.308(7) makes it a public nuisance to allow, on a residential-foreclosure property, excessive foliage growth diminishing property values, trespassers remaining, or mosquito larvae growing in standing water; enforcement must follow NRS Chapter 40. WCC 50.308(3) makes structures partially constructed without substantial progress for six months or longer, or partially destroyed by fire and left so for six months or longer, public nuisances. Property with adjacent sidewalks, parkways, or alleys not kept in a safe and sanitary condition (trash, weeds, oil) is also a nuisance under WCC 50.308(4). Rules cover unincorporated Washoe County.
Enforced under WCC Chapter 125; the county may order abatement, and (for foreclosures) act consistent with NRS Chapter 40, recovering costs from the owner.
