Buckeye, AZ Public Conduct: Jaywalking (2026)

Buckeye City Code Section 12-4-1 requires that, except in a marked crosswalk, a pedestrian cross a roadway only by a route at right angles to the curb or by the shortest direct route to the opposite curb: the mid-block, diagonal crossing that state law calls jaywalking. The section also bars crossing anywhere prohibited by posted signs, pavement markings, or other traffic-control devices. It sits in Chapter 12's pedestrian regulations article alongside the companion rule restricting roller skates, coasters, and similar wheeled toys to marked crosswalks when entering a roadway (Section 12-4-2). Buckeye traffic officers enforce the crossing rule citywide as a civil traffic violation.
