Article X of the traffic code sets two pedestrian crossing rules. Section 15-243 requires crossing a roadway at right angles to the curb, or by the shortest route to the opposite curb, unless a crosswalk or traffic control device says otherwise. Section 15-244 goes further on streets the city council has designated as through streets: pedestrians there may cross only in a crosswalk, marked or unmarked. The city council sets which crosswalks and through streets apply by resolution under § 15-245.
