(3) Smoking shall be prohibited in and within 25 feet of bleachers and grandstands for use by spectators at sporting and other public events.

Code § 42-2(e) bars smoking outdoors within 25 feet of any public entrance to a smoke-free building, within 25 feet of playgrounds, bleachers/grandstands, dugouts, ball fields and sporting-facility concession stands. The buffer narrows to 5 feet for bars and expanded-service restaurants/alcoholic-beverage establishments. It applies in both the City of Lafayette and the unincorporated parish (Sec. 1-3); it does not reach Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville or Milton, which have their own codes. Private residences, hotel guest rooms, and tobacco/hookah/vape shops are exempt.
Violations & Fines
Infraction: fine up to $100 for a first violation, up to $200 for a second within a year, up to $500 for each additional violation within a year; each day is a separate offense. Enforced by the Lafayette Fire Chief citywide and by any law-enforcement officer with parish jurisdiction in unincorporated areas.
