Iron County, UT Public Conduct: Public Alcohol Use (2026)

Section 12.14.030(W) makes it unlawful to possess or use alcohol anywhere within a county park or recreation area unless the Iron County Commission has approved a permit for that specific use, and the chapter applies to every publicly dedicated park, trail, and recreation facility in the unincorporated county under Section 12.14.020. The sheriff's department and the park's supervisory authority both hold enforcement authority under Section 12.14.040, and violators can be evicted on the spot under Section 12.14.050. Outside the parks chapter, unincorporated Iron County has no general open-container law covering adults on streets or sidewalks; the only other alcohol-in-public restriction in the code targets people under 21, who may not have any alcoholic beverage in their possession on a street, highway, or public place at all under Section 9.04.060, a rule dating to Ordinance 38 of 1964.

That contrast matters for event planning: an adult with a permit may legally drink at a permitted park gathering, but a minor cannot lawfully carry alcohol into that same park regardless of any permit issued to the event.
