Georgetown County, SC Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

County Code § 13.9-73 declares it unlawful to use the Morse Landing Park areas in Murrells Inlet for a list of specific activities, the first of which is biking, skateboarding or similar activity. The same section bars swimming or diving, vending and other commercial activity outside approved community events, storing or placing materials, posting or distributing handbills or signs without county approval, cleaning or repairing personal property in the park, littering, mooring directly to the park's docks, any activity that could damage public facilities, and commercial harvesting or loading of fish or shellfish.

Section 13.9-71 explains the purpose behind these restrictions: Morse Landing was established so the public can enjoy the park while individuals and businesses near it can still fully use their own properties, meaning the skateboarding ban is tied directly to protecting the park's limited space and its neighbors from disruptive activity. The park's own hours, set by § 13.9-72, run from sunrise until 12:00 midnight. Section 13.9-74 additionally holds every park user responsible for showing care for the marsh, vegetation and dock structures and for cleaning up after any pet.

Because Article V of Chapter 13.9 does not carry its own penalty clause for Morse Landing violations, enforcement falls to the county's general penalty provision, § 1-6, a fine of up to $200.00 or up to 30 days in jail for county ordinance violations without a specific penalty of their own.
