St. Tammany Parish, LA Public Conduct: Skateboarding Rules (2026)

Section 30-491 sets out the operating rules for the St. Tammany Parish Fishing Pier, the roughly 2,000-foot pedestrian pier converted from the abandoned span of the I-10 bridge near Slidell. Item (15) of the pier rules bars bicycles, skateboards and other wheeled conveyances outright, with a single carve-out for wheeled devices used by handicapped persons. 00 for non-fishing visitors 12 and older, and free entry for children under 12; a requirement that visitors under 16 be accompanied by an adult; a ban on pets, glass containers, diving, swimming, cast nets, crab traps, smoking on the wooden structure and sitting or climbing on the rails; and a prohibition on business solicitation on pier property.

Pier hours are set by policy of the parish president, may be adjusted seasonally, and any changes must be posted at the pier entrance and pier grounds and advertised through parish media. The pier is administered as a distinct parish recreational facility under Article XIX of Chapter 30, separate from the general public-property rules that apply to parish parks such as Camp Salmen Nature Park, which carries its own, nearly identical wheeled-conveyance and conduct list under section 30-468. Because section 30-491 does not set its own penalty clause for skateboarding or the other listed prohibitions, enforcement falls back to the parish's general penalty section.
