Alameda County, CA Public Health Rules: Food Handler Certification (2026)

Section 6.68.100 lets an Alameda County health inspector require food facility staff to attend a food safety education class, but only when triggered: either the facility has repeated CDC risk-factor violations affecting food safety, or a food handler or employee lacks sufficient knowledge to safely prepare and serve food. It is not a blanket certification every worker must obtain before starting a job, it's a corrective measure ACDEH can impose during an inspection. The requirement applies to food facilities within unincorporated Alameda County and any incorporated city that relies on ACDEH rather than running its own local health department.
