Ascension Parish, LA Public Health Rules: Rodent Control (2026)

UDC Section 17-8063, part of the parish's mobile home park chapter, requires that all grounds, buildings, and structures in a mobile home park be kept free of insect and rodent harborage and infestation, with extermination methods conforming to the requirements of the Parish Health Authority, defined at Section 17-80100 as the Louisiana State Office and Environmental Quality and the Ascension Parish Health Unit. The same section requires that the growth of weeds, brush, and grass be controlled to prevent harborage of chiggers, ticks and other noxious insects, that parks be kept free of ragweed, poison ivy, poison oak, poison sumac and other noxious weeds considered detrimental to health, and that open areas be maintained free of heavy undergrowth.

Both duties fall on the mobile home park owner and/or operator, not individual tenants. This provision sits alongside the park's refuse-disposal rule at Section 17-8062, which separately requires watertight, fly-tight, rodent-proof garbage containers for each mobile home lot and at least weekly collection, so that garbage does not itself create rodent harborage. Enforcement runs through the park's operating license: Section 17-8098(B) lets the Ascension Parish Police Jury revoke a mobile home park's license after the owner or operator is found guilty by the Parish Court for Ascension Parish or the 23rd Judicial District Court of violating any provision of the mobile home park regulations, with the license reissued only once the violation is corrected.
