Oklahoma City does not prohibit landlord discrimination based on lawful source of income such as Section 8 vouchers or SSI, leaving voucher holders without local legal recourse if landlords refuse to accept the program.
Federal Fair Housing Act protections cover race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status, and disability β but not source of income. Some states and cities (California, Connecticut, Chicago) added source-of-income protections; Oklahoma has not. OKC has no local fair-housing ordinance extending coverage to voucher holders. The result is that landlords may legally refuse Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers, VA Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers, or SSI/SSDI as income solely because of the source. Voucher holders must search for participating landlords through the OKC Housing Authority's listings and partner programs.
None β refusal of vouchers is currently lawful. However, refusal masking race, disability, or familial-status bias remains illegal.
