Anyone staging a for-hire or donation-funded fireworks display in Oklahoma City must hold a Fire Marshal certificate of fitness, renewed every year, before touching off a single shell.
A certificate of fitness shall be valid for a period of one year from the date of issuance and must be renewed annually. A certificate of fitness is required by the responsible person conducting any of the following activities when such activities are conducted on a for-hire basis or any funds are received through donations, in-kind gift, barter arrangement, or payment for services of any type.(1)the use of any explosive material, except no certificate is required for:a.personnel involved in manufacturing processes utilizing explosive materials; orb.individuals using power-driven riveting machines employing small arms ammunition;(2)the installation of any flammable compressed gas tanks or any equipment attached thereto;(3)any use of fireworks or pyrotechnic agent used for display;(4)any chimney sweep operation;(5)cleaning of ducts used for removal of grease-laden vapors;(6)the installation, removal or testing for tightness of flammable or combustible liquid tanks or any equipment or lines attached thereto;(7)any use of open flame effect(s) before audiences in indoor and/or outdoor settings.(b)No such certificates are required for any person having obtained a license or certificate as may be required by other state or local law covering any of the above activities.
