Jefferson Parish, LA Short-Term Rentals: Host Presence Rule (2026)

Sec. 5-3(b) of the lodging accommodations chapter splits short-term rental operations into two duties. First, "a designated local responsible party is required" for every licensed short-term rental. " The parish backs this with paperwork at the licensing stage: Sec. 4 requires the operator to file "an affidavit executed by the operator designating and authorizing the local responsible party" as part of the license application, and Sec. 5-2(9) requires that party's name, phone number with area code, and e-mail address to appear in the brochure posted inside the rental at all times.

If the property sits in one of the parish's mixed-use or commercial zoning districts named in Sec. 3, such as Old Bucktown Mixed-Use or General Office, the operator or lessee must also show proof of primary residency, layering an occupancy tie to the property on top of the absentee-friendly responsible-party rule. The department of code compliance and enforcement and the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office may inspect the property under Sec. 5-4 regardless of whether the operator or the responsible party is present.
