Shasta County imposes short-term rental quiet hours under Section 17.88.230(F)(4): 10:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 10:00 p.m. to 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Outdoor amplified sound is prohibited during quiet hours. The owner or local contact must respond to the property within 60 minutes of a noise complaint.
Section 17.88.230(F)(4) establishes noise standards for all short-term rentals. Quiet hours are observed between 10:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, and between 10:00 p.m. and 9:00 a.m. on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, and outdoor amplified sound is prohibited during those quiet hours. The property owner or local contact person must ensure that guests understand that loud or unreasonable noise that disturbs others and is out of keeping with the character of the surrounding neighborhood is a violation. The owner or local contact must also be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week whenever the rental is occupied to accept telephone calls and respond physically to the property within 60 minutes of a call to address noise complaints; failure to respond to all verifiable complaints is itself a violation. House policies in every rental agreement must notify guests of these noise standards. These STR-specific rules operate alongside the County's general nuisance and noise enforcement and are enforced by Code Enforcement and the Sheriff's Office.
Generating loud or unreasonable noise, using outdoor amplified sound during quiet hours, or failing to respond to a verifiable noise complaint within 60 minutes is a violation of Section 17.88.230 and an infraction. Repeated noise violations can support revocation of the vacation rental permit or hosted homestay affidavit.
