Osceola County levies a 6% Tourist Development Tax on the total rent for any stay under 180 days, on top of Florida's 6% sales tax. The person receiving the rent must collect and remit it monthly to the Osceola County Tax Collector under FS 125.0104.
Under FS 125.0104 (the Local Option Tourist Development Tax), Osceola County imposes a 6% bed tax on short-term rentals โ living quarters rented for six months or less. It stacks with the 6% Florida sales/use tax collected by the state. The 6% county rate is built from five separate statutory levies (FS 125.0104(3)(c), (d), (l), (m), and (n)). The owner or agent โ not the guest โ is legally responsible for collecting the tax and remitting it to the Osceola County Tax Collector, plus DBPR and county license fees.
Failure to collect or remit the tourist tax results in assessment of the tax due, penalties, and interest by the Tax Collector, and can jeopardize the rental license.
