Sacramento County imposes a 12% Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) on every Florin STR booking of 29 days or less under SCC Chapter 3.08. The host must register with the Department of Finance, collect the tax, and remit it monthly.
The TOT is 12% of the rent charged. Florin STRs also fall within Sacramento Tourism Marketing District (STMD) and Sacramento Tourism Infrastructure District (TID) assessment areas, adding small per-night surcharges on top of the 12%. Booking platforms like Airbnb may collect and remit Sacramento County TOT for hosts; even when they do, the host remains responsible for filing zero or reconciliation returns. Failure to collect or remit triggers back-assessment plus 10% delinquency penalties and interest.
Non-payment of TOT is a violation of Chapter 3.08 and grounds for permit revocation. Sacramento County can audit any STR and back-bill up to three years of TOT plus penalties.
