Anne Arundel County Code §4-6-105 imposes a use or occupancy tax on all transient lodging including STRs. The rate was increased from 7% to 8% effective July 1, 2023. Maryland state sales tax at 6% also applies. Hosting platforms (Airbnb, VRBO) collect and remit the state portion under Maryland SB 530 (2019). Hosts are responsible for ensuring county occupancy tax compliance. Tax remittance information is available from the county Finance Department. Bill 88-19 originally extended the occupancy tax to STRs and defined 'short-term rental' in the county code.
