Full Breakdown
Operators must pay a $100.00 non-refundable, non-transferrable license fee to the Lafayette City-Parish Consolidated Government before renting a short-term rental inside the City of Lafayette (Sec. 73-16(b)(1)), and pay the same $100 fee again at each annual renewal (Sec. 73-17(b)(1)). Chapter 73 itself applies only inside the city limits, not the wider unincorporated parish or the separate municipalities of Broussard, Carencro, Duson, Scott, Youngsville and Milton. Separately, Lafayette Parish's hotel occupancy tax, levied under Chapter 82 at up to 4% of the room rent, applies parish-wide to hotels, and STR license applicants must prove they hold a current tax-remittance account with the Lafayette Parish School System.
Violations & Fines
Operating without a valid Chapter 73 license is unlawful (Sec. 73-15). The director may fine, condition, suspend or revoke a license for noncompliance, with appeal to the 15th Judicial District Court.
