Midwest City, OK Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Obstruction Rules (2026)

City Code § 37-3 makes it unlawful to construct, maintain or operate any structure in a right-of-way unless it fits the narrow exception in § 37-32. "Structure" is defined broadly: gasoline pumps, driveway canopies, buildings, political or commercial signs, monitoring wells, test holes, soil borings, signposts and fences all count. No structure may obstruct sight distance. A violation is a public nuisance the city abates under § 27-8, and § 37-4 lets the city physically tear down or remove a violating structure, billing removal costs to the property owner through the ad valorem tax rolls if the owner won't do it themselves. An aggrieved property owner can appeal to the city council in writing for a $60 fee.
