Rancho Cordova, CA Sidewalk & Pedestrian Rules: Obstruction Rules (2026)

020 of the Rancho Cordova Municipal Code, adopted by Ordinance 4-2025, makes it unlawful to obstruct or cause to be obstructed any street, sidewalk or other public thoroughfare by erecting, placing or maintaining signs, posts, structures, including recreational items such as basketball hoops, soccer goals, skate ramps, or other obstructions of any kind, except as otherwise provided in the code. 010(C) as the portion of the public right-of-way, including any landscaped areas, between a building or other property and the roadway, set apart for pedestrian travel by curbs, barriers, markings, or other delineation.

020 carves out a specific exception for commerce: merchants and persons who receive or deliver goods may use the sidewalk in front of the merchant's premises for that purpose. 040; the city manager or neighborhood services director may issue a temporary permit as long as the item does not interfere with pedestrian use of the sidewalk and is removed once it is no longer needed. 060. Its director may investigate complaints and, under subsection (B), remove an unpermitted obstruction eight hours after posting a removal notice to the owner or person in charge.

If that person cannot be located, the director may instead post a 72-hour notice on the item itself before removing and storing it at the owner's expense. Subsection (C) allows removal with no notice at all when the obstruction poses an immediate threat to public health, safety or welfare.
