Ascension Parish, LA Sign Regulations: Digital Billboards (2026)

UDC Section 17-2087 regulates off-premises, or off-site, advertising structures, commonly called billboards, in unincorporated Ascension Parish. The section starts from a restrictive baseline: it addresses only the limited circumstance where an existing off-site advertising structure is taken by a government authority, by agreement or by judicial action, and lets the owner relocate a replacement structure onto land zoned MI, HI, MU or CC, or onto qualifying MU2 land where the taken structure sat on MU2-zoned property, or immediately adjacent to it, before the taking. A replacement structure sited on MU2 land under that provision is capped at 40 feet at its highest point, may carry no more than two advertising faces with no more than one face oriented toward traffic in a given direction, and each face is capped at 380 square feet.

That 40-foot, two-face, 380-square-foot package does not apply where the structure is relocated onto land adjacent to an interstate highway or its right-of-way. Two restrictions apply to every off-site sign structure parish-wide regardless of zoning: billboards must be spaced at least 2,000 feet apart from each other, and stacked billboards, a single structure with two advertising faces mounted one directly above the other, are banned outright, though both rules exempt sign structures that already existed when the section was adopted. The code does not carve out separate standards for digital or electronic message billboards; any off-site sign, static or digital, is governed by these same height, spacing, face-count and size limits.
