LaPorte County, IN Sign Regulations: Freeway-Facing Signs (2026)

077 confines off-premise commercial signs, meaning structures advertising goods or services not available on the premises where the sign sits, to the AB, GB, LB, I and IR zoning districts and only along state, interstate and federal highways; no off-premise advertising sign may be located on any county road. Along the I-80/90 Toll Road and I-94, an off-premise sign can reach up to 672 square feet per facing, with extensions capped at 328 square feet, and no more than one sign per facing for a maximum of two advertising faces per structure.

Along every other highway, the same structure type is capped at 300 square feet per facing, again limited to two advertising faces total. Height is capped at 50 feet measured from the highway centerline, with a minimum clearance of 21 feet from grade to the bottom of the sign, and structures must be back-to-back or a V-design, with V-designs on the Toll Road or I-94 capped at 20 feet. No rotating signs are permitted anywhere, and off-premise signs must be separated from each other by at least 1,000 linear feet along the Toll Road or I-94.
