On your own property, a garage-sale sign is an on-premises yard sign (up to three, six square feet, five feet tall, no permit). Off-premises weekend directional signs are allowed only from noon Friday to 7 a.m. Monday, no larger than 24 by 24 inches, and out of the right-of-way.
Greenville County's Sign Regulations (Chapter 19) let a garage-sale sign on the sale property be posted as an on-premises yard sign: up to three signs, each no more than six square feet and five feet tall, without a permit. To point buyers to the sale, weekend directional signs may be placed off-premises but must follow Section 6.2.12: written permission from the property owner is required, the sign face may not exceed 24 inches by 24 inches, height may not exceed three feet, signs may not encroach the road right-of-way or sight triangle, and they may not be placed before noon Friday and must be removed by 7 a.m. the following Monday. Cities regulate garage-sale signs separately.
Off-premises directional signs left up outside the Friday-noon to Monday-7 a.m. window, oversized, or placed in the right-of-way may be removed by Greenville County as prohibited signs.
