Bernalillo County permits temporary garage sale signs on private property under IDO §5-12. Off-premise signs in public right-of-way are prohibited per NMSA §67-7-10. Signs limited to 4 sq ft, maximum 3 days before/after sale.
Under Bernalillo County IDO §5-12, garage sale signs are classified as temporary non-commercial signs. On the host's own property, signs up to 4 square feet may be displayed. Off-premise directional signs placed on other private property require the property owner's consent. Signs in the public right-of-way (utility poles, traffic signs, medians, sidewalks) are prohibited under NMSA §67-7-10 and County Code Chapter 66 — Public Works removes them without notice. The County does not require a garage sale permit, unlike some NM municipalities. Sales themselves are limited to 3 per year per household and may not exceed 3 consecutive days each under IDO §4-3(C)(7). Signs must come down within 24 hours of the sale's end. The City of Albuquerque has similar rules (ABQ §8-8) but adds a 2-sale-per-year cap in some zones.
Sign on utility pole or traffic sign: removed by County, fine $25–$100 per sign under §66. Signs not removed after sale: $25/day fine. More than 3 sales/year: citation, may classify as commercial activity.
