Oklahoma City, OK Sign Regulations: Garage Sale Signs (2026)

Section 22-3 of the Oklahoma City Municipal Code, part of Chapter 22 governing garage, yard, porch and backyard sales, limits how many signs a residential sale may use and where they can go. One on-site sign of not more than 12 square feet is allowed on the property where the sale is held. A resident may also put up two off-site signs, each capped at 12 square feet, but only with permission from the owner of whatever property the sign sits on; the code does not require that permission be in writing, but the seller bears the risk if a property owner disputes it.

Signs are barred outright from public property: the ordinance specifically names street signs and posts, traffic signs and posts, public utility poles, streetlights and streetlight standards as off-limits, so a sign zip-tied to a stop sign or utility pole is prohibited regardless of size. Timing is also regulated: signs cannot go up sooner than 12 hours before the sale's start time and date, and every sign must come down at the close of the sale, not the next day. Section 22-3(c) puts removal squarely on the person who holds the residential sale permit, so an unremoved sign traces back to a specific permittee rather than becoming an anonymous violation.

This sign rule sits inside the same chapter that limits residential sales to two per property per calendar year (Section 22-2) and requires a permit from the Supervisor of Licenses for every sale (Section 22-21), so a sign issue can surface alongside a frequency or permit review during the same site visit.
