The Unified Development Code's definitions section defines "Sign, Temporary Commercial" as a sign located on the property, related to a temporary commercial activity taking place there, and gives garage sales as one of its named examples alongside "For Sale/Lease" and "Help Wanted" signs. A governs how those temporary signs must be displayed: they cannot advertise goods or direct people to a different location than where they're installed, must be properly anchored and kept in good repair without fading or tears, and can never be displayed permanently.

Where a temporary sign refers to a specific event like a garage sale, it must be located only on the property where the sale is taking place; it may sit within a required yard, but cannot extend over any lot line or sit within fifteen feet of any point of vehicular access from the lot to a public roadway, measured from the nearest end of the sign. The sign must then come down within seven days after it no longer serves its purpose, meaning within a week of the sale ending.
