Pinal County's sign code exempts small signs from permits, but requires a sign permit before erecting any nonexempt sign larger than six square feet or higher than eight feet above grade. Garage-sale and temporary signs must stay out of hazardous locations and off public right-of-way.
The Pinal County Development Services Code regulates signs under Title 2. A sign permit must be secured from the county planning and development services department before erecting, relocating, or substantially reconstructing any nonexempt sign exceeding six square feet in area or higher than eight feet above grade, regardless of value. Small garage-sale and yard-sale signs generally fall under the exempt-sign category, but they may not obstruct clear vision, create a traffic hazard, or be placed in public rights-of-way where prohibited. Signs must be removed promptly after the event. Incorporated cities such as Maricopa, Casa Grande, and Apache Junction have their own temporary-sign and garage-sale-sign rules.
Placing an oversized or unpermitted sign, or one that obstructs vision or sits in a prohibited right-of-way, is a code violation; the county may order removal and impose fines.
