Seasonal and holiday displays on private property in St. Petersburg are largely permitted under the content-neutral sign code, subject to safety, size, and right-of-way limits.
St. Petersburg's Section 16.40.120 sign code treats holiday and seasonal displays as temporary noncommercial speech and does not require a permit for residential displays on private property. Lights, inflatables, and decorative signage must remain on the owner's property, away from the public right-of-way and sight triangles, and must not create safety hazards such as blocking sidewalks or obstructing driver visibility. Electrical installations should comply with the Florida Building Code. Commercial properties displaying seasonal signage must remain within total sign-area allowances for their zone.
Displays that block sidewalks, encroach on rights-of-way, or violate sign-area limits in commercial zones may be cited and ordered removed under Chapter 9 enforcement.
