Jefferson County, CO Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 23.D of the Jefferson County Zoning Resolution lists Temporary Ground Signs as signs not requiring a permit. Because the code does not classify signs by message (consistent with Reed v. Town of Gilbert), a political or election sign is a Temporary Ground Sign. Six are allowed per property; in all zone districts they may not extend outside the property line, exceed 42 inches in height, or exceed 8 sq ft per sign face. On qualifying agricultural lots the cap rises to 32 sq ft (set back 10 feet, max 10 feet tall). Temporary signs may not be erected for more than 6 months within a consecutive 12-month period and may not be illuminated.
