Full Breakdown

Under the Washoe County Development Code (WCC 110.505.05(b)(15)), election period signs are exempt from most sign standards. The election period begins the first day of filing for an election and ends ten days after the general election. There is no limit on the number of signs or total display area per site, and such signs don't count against a site's normal sign allotment, but each individual sign is capped at 128 square feet. No sign permit is required. Election signs must not be illuminated (no electronic message displays) and cannot be placed in a prohibited sign area under Sec. 110.505.35. These county rules govern unincorporated areas; Reno and Sparks have their own sign codes.
