In unincorporated Douglas County, political signs are regulated content-neutrally as temporary signs. They need no permit and, in most residential districts, you may post up to four signs of 64 sq. ft. or less during the September 1 to November 15 election window plus unlimited small signs.
The Douglas County Zoning Resolution (Section 2912) treats yard and campaign signs as temporary signs that require no permit. In the RR, ER, SR, MF, and MH districts (Section 2912.02), from September 1 through November 15 you may post up to four signs not exceeding 64 square feet each, and unlimited signs of six square feet or less; outside that window two larger signs and two small signs are allowed. Illumination is not permitted. Signs must stay on private property, not in the public right-of-way. Colorado law also bars HOAs from banning political signs (C.R.S. 38-33.3-106.5).
Signs placed in the public right-of-way may be removed by the county, and oversized or excess signs can be cited for correction.
