In the unincorporated parish, political signs may be placed on private property with the owner's consent but are prohibited on any public right-of-way. Signs illegally placed in the right-of-way are treated as abandoned property and removed by the parish without further notice.
Chapter 32 (Signs) of the Jefferson Parish Code governs signs in the unincorporated parish. The parish notifies all qualified candidates by certified letter that campaign signs placed on any public right-of-way are considered abandoned property subject to immediate removal and disposal. Political signs are otherwise allowed on private property with the property owner's permission, subject to the parish's general size, placement and clear-vision limits. Incorporated cities set their own campaign-sign rules.
Right-of-way signs are removed and disposed of by the parish without notice; repeat or commercial violations of Chapter 32 can draw code-enforcement penalties.
