Political (campaign) signs do not require a sign permit in unincorporated Spokane County under Zoning Code Chapter 14.804. They must not sit in the public right-of-way, block sight distance, or violate the clear-view triangle rules, and cannot resemble traffic-control devices.
Spokane County Zoning Code Section 14.804.040 lists political signs among the signs that do not require a sign permit, so no application or fee is needed. The code sets no separate size or duration limit specifically for political signs, but general sign rules still apply: under SCC 14.804.110 signs must not interfere with vehicular or pedestrian accessibility or sight distance, must conform to the Fences/Clear View Triangle chapter (14.812), and may not overhang or be located in any public right-of-way. Prohibited signs (14.804.050) include those resembling traffic-control devices or creating safety hazards. Placement on private property with the owner's permission is required; the county cannot regulate content.
Signs in the right-of-way, blocking sight lines, or resembling traffic signals are prohibited and may be removed by the county; enforcement is by Spokane County Building and Planning.
