Fayetteville regulates political signs content-neutrally as non-commercial signs. A resident may post one on private property year-round, plus additional temporary election signs starting 60 days before any election, all removed within three days after. Right-of-way placement is banned.
Fayetteville's sign code (UDC Chapter 174) never singles out political content; campaign signs are handled as non-commercial signs under Sec. 174.03(H), keeping the ordinance Reed-compliant. On residential property an owner or tenant may display one non-commercial sign year-round, sized to the real-estate-sign limits, up to 8 square feet in most residential districts and 32 in R-A. Beginning 60 days before any general, primary, runoff, or special election, additional temporary non-commercial signs are allowed, plus one large sign up to 32 square feet; all must come down within three days after that election. No permit is required. Under Sec. 174.07 only government entities may place signs in the public right-of-way.
Signs in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or on right-of-way trees may be removed by the city. Election signs left standing past the three-day post-election deadline violate Sec. 174.03(H).
