Franklin Township, PA Sign Regulations: Political Signs (2026)

Section 27-2003, Exempt Signs, lets a resident put up a temporary political sign without first obtaining a Township sign permit, provided it still meets the general standards of §§ 27-2001 and 27-2008. I sets the size and duration: the sign cannot exceed six square feet, and it must come down within 14 days of the applicable election date, whether the candidate or measure wins or loses. That six-square-foot allowance is larger than the four-square-foot cap the Township gives a garage sale sign, though it matches the allowance for temporary real estate and contractor signs.

I generally bars posting any sign on a tree, utility pole or natural feature, but it specifically exempts 'removable political signs' from that ban, alongside temporary yard or garage sale signs. Because a political sign is still governed by § 27-2001's general standards, it cannot flash, move, rotate or be placed inside a street right-of-way, and floodlighting used to illuminate it after dark cannot spill glare across a property line or vehicular access.
