In unincorporated Lee County, a property owner may place political or campaign signs of up to four square feet on their own property. Signs may go up no earlier than 60 days before the election and must be removed within ten days after it.
Lee County LDC Sec. 30-151(4) governs temporary political or campaign signs and permits them in any zoning district. Signs may be erected not earlier than 60 days before the election and must be removed within ten days after the election. A property owner placing signs on their own property may do so without a permit, provided each sign does not exceed four square feet in area. In agricultural, commercial, or industrial zones, signs may not exceed 32 square feet or six feet in height. Anyone posting signs on others' property must file a location list and post a security bond. Cities set their own sign rules.
Signs left up past ten days after the election, oversized signs, or signs in the right-of-way are removed by the County; posting on others' land without a bonded location list violates Sec. 30-151.
