Lee County has no dedicated garage-sale sign rule, but off-site promotional and special-event signs on others' property require a permit and a security bond from the Building Official, may go up within 45 days before the event, and must be removed within ten days after.
Lee County LDC Sec. 30-151(5) regulates promotional signs for special events, the category that covers off-premises garage-sale style advertising. No person or nonprofit may post such a sign on property owned by others until they obtain a permit from the Building Official and post a security bond ensuring removal. Promotional signs may be erected within 45 days before the event and must be removed within ten days after. They may not exceed 40 square feet in area or ten feet in height. On-site temporary signs at the residence hosting the sale are permitted subject to the temporary-sign limits. Prohibited signs may not be placed in public rights-of-way. Cities apply their own rules.
Off-site sale signs without a permit and bond, or left up beyond ten days after the event, violate Sec. 30-151 and are removed by the County under Sec. 30-8; the bond covers cleanup.
