The Allen County Zoning Ordinance (A.C.C. 3-4-9) classifies political signs as noncommercial opinion signs. Unlike other temporary signs, there is no limit on the number allowed. In agricultural, residential, and manufactured-home (A/R/MH) districts a noncommercial opinion sign may be up to 12 square feet with a maximum freestanding height of 4 feet; in all other districts up to 32 square feet and 6 feet tall. Signs must be set back 5 feet from the lot line and may not be mounted on a fence. They may be placed starting January 1 of an election year and must be removed within 30 days after the election.
Signs that exceed the size limits, are placed in the public right-of-way, or remain past the 30-day post-election removal window may be removed and the owner cited by the Department of Planning Services.
