Arizona ARS 16-1019 protects the right of property owners to display political signs on their property. Marana and HOAs may impose reasonable size and placement restrictions but cannot ban political signs. Under state law, political signs on residential property are generally limited to a combined total of nine square feet per sign face, though multiple signs are permitted. Signs may not be placed in the public right-of-way, on utility poles, or in sight-distance triangles at intersections. Political signs must be removed within 15 days after the election to which they pertain. HOAs may not prohibit political signs within 71 days before an election and 3 days after (ARS 33-1808). Temporary signs on vacant lots require owner permission. The town sign ordinance in the Land Development Code establishes placement standards that apply to all temporary signs.
Signs in right-of-way: removal by town. Signs not removed within 15 days post-election: code enforcement notice.
