Williamson County's sign ordinance allows political signs on private property with the owner's permission, up to five per parcel and 30 square feet total. Signs are barred from the public road right-of-way, and content-based rules are unconstitutional after Reed v. Gilbert.
The Williamson County Zoning Ordinance treats political signs as temporary signs. On private property, with the owner's consent, it permits up to five signs per parcel, no single sign larger than 16 square feet and no more than 30 square feet total, with no permit required. No temporary sign may sit within or project into a public road right-of-way in the unincorporated county. On Election Day and during early voting, Tennessee Code Β§2-7-111 sets a 100-foot campaign-free zone at each polling place entrance. The county's rules must stay content-neutral under Reed v. Town of Gilbert (2015). Franklin and Brentwood apply their own sign codes.
A political sign placed in a county or state road right-of-way is removed by the county or TDOT. Oversized or excess signs on private property draw a zoning correction notice; HOA covenants add their own fines.
