Residents can post a No Soliciting sign to prohibit door-to-door solicitation. Under TX Penal Code Sec. 30.05, solicitors who knock after seeing the sign commit criminal trespass. Lubbock enforces this through LPD complaint response.
Texas recognizes posted No Soliciting and No Trespassing signs as effective notice that entry is forbidden. Under TX Penal Code Sec. 30.05 (criminal trespass), a person commits an offense if they enter or remain on property after receiving notice that entry was forbidden, and posted signage at the entrance reasonably likely to come to the attention of intruders constitutes notice. Lubbock Police will respond to calls about solicitors who ignore posted signs. Commercial solicitors are also subject to revocation of their city solicitor permit for violations. The rule does not block political or religious canvassing protected by the First Amendment, though many courts have upheld generic No Soliciting signs against commercial activity. Federal law separately provides the Do Not Call Registry for telephone solicitation.
