Amarillo requires door-to-door solicitors, peddlers, and canvassers to obtain a permit from the Amarillo Police Department before conducting solicitation activities within city limits. Applications are processed by the APD.
The Amarillo Police Department administers solicitor permits for individuals who sell goods, take orders, or solicit donations door-to-door within the city. Applicants must submit a completed Solicitor's Permit Application (available from the APD) along with required identification and background information. The permit must be carried and shown on request. Title XIV (Permits, Taxation, Licenses and Business Regulations) of the Amarillo Code of Ordinances contains the governing framework for business permits and licenses. Permit holders may not solicit on private property posted with 'No Soliciting' signs. Hours and conduct restrictions may apply under general public safety provisions.
Soliciting without a valid permit is a misdemeanor offense subject to citation and fine. Repeated violations may result in permit denial or revocation.
