Baton Rouge requires all house-to-house peddlers and solicitors to obtain a permit from the EBR Finance Department's Revenue Collection Division. Peddling is limited to 9 a.m.β6 p.m. and is prohibited in posted No-Peddling subdivisions.
Under Code of Ordinances Sec. 12:200 (House-to-House Peddling As Nuisance, Title 12, Chapter 3), all persons engaged in house-to-house peddling or soliciting within East Baton Rouge Parish must hold a valid permit issued by the Revenue Collection Division of the Finance Department, carry the permit and photo ID at all times, and present both upon demand. Peddling is permitted only between 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. Residential subdivisions whose HOA passes a resolution and posts signs at entrances (approved by the Chief Traffic Engineer) may be designated No-Peddling zones. Violations of the No-Peddling ordinance are law enforcement matters; the Revenue Collection Division does not enforce. Permit applications are available at brla.gov.
Violation of the peddling ordinance is a misdemeanor enforced by law enforcement. Peddling in a posted No-Solicitation subdivision is unlawful. Civil liability possible.
