Dunwoody, GA Soliciting & Door-to-Door: Solicitor Permits (2026)

Section 10-89 of the Dunwoody Code of Ordinances makes it unlawful to engage in the business of soliciting, calling on residences door-to-door, without first obtaining a permit. The permit requirement applies only to commercial, for-profit door-to-door sales; it does not reach charitable, political or other nonprofit solicitation where sale proceeds belong to and are used by the nonprofit, and it exempts government employees on official business. Section 10-90 requires a sworn application listing the applicant's residence and employment history for the past three years, the goods or publications to be sold, a proposed route by street, the three most recent communities where the applicant solicited house to house, vehicle description and license plate, and a Social Security number, plus a fingerprint-based background check under Section 2-62.

No permit issues to anyone convicted of a felony or crime of moral turpitude within the preceding five years. A permit is valid for no more than three months, though Section 10-89(e) allows a fee-free three-month renewal if no more than one complaint has been filed against the holder.
